Krasnoyarsk
The Krasnoyarsk Territory is situated in central Siberia. The population of the territory is multinational with more than 100 nationalities.
The history of the city dates back to 1628, when the Cossacks headed by Andrew Dubensky during their way along the Enisey paid attention to the place of confluence of the two rivers – the Enisey and the Kacha. The beauty of the place amazed them – steppes, mountains and the taiga stretched for miles around. The name “Krasnoyarsk” appeared at the end of the 17
th century when the status of the city was got.
Krasnoyarsk is widely known as one of the largest industrial cities of the country. There is a number of big plants and factories, such as aluminium and metallurgical plants, enterprises of machine-building complex, food and light industries, timber treating productions and others.
Krasnoyarsk is a cultural center of Siberia. In its history there are a lot of outstanding names among which you can find a painter Vasiliy Surikov, a merchant-bibliofile Gennadiy Yudin, an opera singer Dmitry Khvorostovsky, a choreographer Mikhail Godenko, a two times Olimpic champion in wrestling Ivan Yarygin, a famous writer Victor Astafiev.
Citizens of Krasnoyarsk and its guests have wide opportunities to get acquainted with the work of actors, musicians and artists. In the city there is the Drama theatre named after A.S. Pushkin, the Opera and Ballet House, the Musical Theatre, the Puppet Theatre, the Theatre for the Young Spectators. We have the Big Concert Hall, the Philharmonic Hall, the Organ Hall and the Circus. There is the Territory Museum, the Cultural-Historical Center, the Art Gallery named after Vassiliy Surikov, the Exhibition Centre. Here you can watch interesting plays, ballets, concerts of professional actors. You can see masterpieces by artists and sculptors of past and present.
Krasnoyarsk is a sport center of Siberia. Twice it was the capital of All-Union Winter Spartakiads. Such kinds of sports as wrestling and Greco-Roman one, judo, ice-hockey, rugby and motorcycle races on the ice are loved by the citizens. In 2014 Krasnoyarsk won the opportunity to be the capital of the World Universiade which was held in 2019.
Our city is the city of tourists and travelers. Guests of the city can go on excursion about the unique place – natural reservation “Stolby”. It was organized in 1925. Here craggy rocks tower above the taiga on the territory numbering 47000 hectares. They are about one hundred.
Krasnoyarsk is famous for its Siberian hospitality. In the city there are a lot of restaurants, cafes and bars which attract visitors by world cuisine.
