My answer is simple — computers made our modern life different.
Frankly speaking I can’t imagine even a day without interacting with any kind of computer stuff — PC, laptop, tablet, smartphone, neither a vast part of people all over the world.
Computers made any person’s activity much easier, faster and, in many cases more productive, f.e. if you’re a cashier to check in someone’s purchase you need only to swype it near the infrared sensor, while some time ago you would need to manually input all the digital row or memorize all the prices in your shop.
The same situation we have everywhere — drivers drive more safely, economists make better and faster calculation, scientists now are able to proceed all their researches thousands and millions time faster than before computer era et cetera et cetera.
I think that computer is the most important device of 20th century which will help us even more in upcoming epoch.
